14/09: adopt a single mother

north america is full of people with more money than they need so I have a suggestion.

adopt a single mother

don't wait until they have to give away their children in desperation, adopt them now.

Instead of spending endless amounts of cash on fulfilling every personal want and desire, do something for the planet and the people caring for the next generation.
The amount of poverty amongst single women in north america is a disgrace.
The amount of children that go to bed hungry in the richest countries in the world is a disgrace.
Do you need that second or third car, boat, aeroplane, mistress, alcohol, intown condo, country cottage, endless ski trips to utah, etc. etc. etc.

maybe there are already people out there doing this, if so let me know?

if you like this idea contact me and we will try to put together a network.

13/04: visionary artists

Why is it that "visionary artists" all seem to have the same vision?

Come to think of it,

If one gets "seasick" when surrounded by water,
surely one must get "artsick" when surrounded by mediocre art

08/04: misery

What is misery? Give someone one suit of clothing or a hundred, will they be satisfied? Will they not hanker for different or better ones? Happiness and misery are not caused by lack of food or clothing. They are both a product of the mind. As long one allows oneself to be identified or mentally caught up, one can be miserable without food or with plenty of food. Who really knows that the poor, the weak or the unsheltered are living in misery? Equally, who knows that the rich are happy? As often as not they lack the zest to enjoy the things they buy, or can't digest their food, or lack health to enjoy natural surroundings. One should not judge the condition of the Atman by poverty or sickness. Release from misery comes from true knowledge which takes no account of riches or poverty, sickness or health. Discrimination is the key. Through it one can see one's own desires for things one lacks, and one can also see that those who have the things one covets are not happy. Neither happiness nor misery dwells in things, but in one's own decision, made through discrimination, that acquisition of worldly things will bring neither. Following that decision detachment comes, releasing from misery and bringing happiness.

26/03: art crimes

I came across this great site whilst going through banksey's site. Intelligent work everywhere, mostly outside of the "art galleries"

23/03: tom jones

A friend of mine told me that tom jones was coming to town, now I have never been a fan but I do remember something about women throwing panties on the stage so I asked her if they still did that.

"depends" she said.

22/03: the world according to a sufi.

A Sufi woke one night and said to himself "It seems to me that the world is like a chest in which we are all put and the lid is shut down, and we give ourselves up to foolishness. When death lifts the lid, he who has acquired wings, soars away to eternity, but he who has not, stays in the chest a prey to a thousand tribulations. Make sure then that the bird of ambition acquires wings of aspiration, and give to your heart and reason the ecstasy of the soul. Before the lid of the chest is opened become a bird of the spirit, ready to spread your wings".

18/03: psychological encounters in zen thought.

Human beings come into the world with a doubt concerning ‘being’ and this doubt dictates all reactions to the outer world.
Although I do not often realize it, the question ‘Am I’? is behind all my endeavors; I seek a definitive confirmation of my ‘being’ in everything I aspire to. As long as this metaphysical question is identified in me with the problem of my temporal success, as long as I debate this question within manifestation, distress dwells in me on account of my temporal limitation; for the question so posed is always menaced with a negative reply. But, in the measure in which my understanding deepens, in which my imaginative representation of the universe is made subtle, the identification of my metaphysical doubt with the eventuality of my temporal defeat falls asunder; my distress decreases. My question concerning my ‘being’ is purified, its manifested aspect wears thin, in reality it is not reduced but becomes more and more non-manifested. At the end of this process of distillation the doubt has become almost perfectly pure, it is ‘Great Doubt’ and at the same time it has lost all of its distressing character; it is at once the acme of confusion and the height of obviousness, obviousness without formal object, having tranquility and peace. “Then the subject has the impression he/she is living in a palace of crystal, transparent, vivifying, exalting and royal,” and at the same time he/she is like an idiot, like an imbecile.
The famous but illusory question ‘Am I”? in purifying itself, abolishes itself, and I shall at last escape from its fascination not in a satisfying solution of the problem, but in the ability to see that no problem ever existed.
